The dwarven guards were not happy with our adventurers in the least. After checking in with Dewy and confirming that he had indeed offered the party a reward for regaining control of the mine, the dwarves still wanted to prosecute the party for breaking into the mine office. It wasn't until Thomas presented the letter from the king and explained that the reason they undertook this mission in the first place was to help advance the larger mission of returning Cornelius Dorlan to the city of Arcadia. At that point, the guards released the party from custody but were unwilling to help them obtain a map of the mine aside from giving them the name Ta'allen Fellow, the mine foreman. Assuming the foreman was a Dwarf, the party decided to visit the Brewhaus to inquire as to the whereabouts of Ta'allen. After a short discussion with Dewy, the party learned that there are no dwarves on sight at the mine and the foreman was another elf. So across the street they went to the Dirty Stump to see Jerry Brandon and hopefully find Ta'allen. There he was found, passed out from over imbibing. Jerry agreed to inform the party when Ta'allen was coherent so the party called it a night and went to the rooms they had rented.
The following morning, the party regrouped downstairs for breakfast and a meeting with the foreman. Ta'allen gave the party a quick sketch of the mine and wished them luck on their mission.
The journey to the mine found a different shop called the Brown Expedition where they were Thomas was able to negotiate a fair price for the goods and get a healer's kit thrown in as well. Now with less gear and a little more coin, they made their way back into the mine. As they arrived at the chamber with the mine carts, loud chanting could be heard coming from the tunnel the rails descended into. There was some faint light also coming from the tunnel so it was decided that Thomas would make his way down the rails to do some scouting. The rails emerged into a large chamber, about 80' above chamber floor where it descended in a series of spirals to eventually reach the floor. Near the center of this chamber was with about 20 Fire Newts encircling it. Inside, the pit was filled with lava and contained one large Fire Newt. It appeared the other newts were engaged in some ritual. Thomas took note of everything he saw, returned to the party and relayed the scene. It's now time to develop a plan for handling this many newts and living to collect the reward.
