Cornelius Doolan's Mission

by Thomas Tallfellow

Cornelius showed up astride a three horned dinosaur to transport the party to safety before they are once again set upon by a pack of dinosaurs. The arrival of the transport was just in time, as the dinosaurs pursued the party and their mount through the jungle. This pack however had the ability to blink from one location to another which meant there was no way to outrun this pack. They were focusing their attacks on the large mount while the party attempted to pick them off with ranged attacks, but things appeared grim. It was at that point that Cornelius turned the reins controlling the amount over to Jade as he and Maxwell Boulder swung off into the trees to attempt a distraction to get the dinosaurs away from the mount. Fortunately, the distraction was more than successful as a large explosion eliminated most of the pack. It was just in time, as Jade had no skills in handling a mount and the dinosaur went off trail and started rushing towards a raging river. Jade was able to avert a massive disaster by getting the dinosaur to stop, however, her unsteady handling of the reins caused the dinosaur to roll over and on top of some of the party members. Shortly after the tumble, Cornelius and Maxwell rejoin the party and the Lizardfolk Cornelius retakes the reins and gets them all to the safety of his hideout in the jungle.

At the hideout, the party finally has a chance to tell Cornelius why they were searching for him and that the king required his service back in Arcadia immediately. Interestingly, the party learns that Cornelius is on this island under the orders of the king. It is his research that has created the dinosaurs by infusing old fossils with arcane energy and the assistance of a glowing crystal back at his research cave. It is at this point, that Cornelius informs the party that he no longer has access to his research cave as Punetazo has just recently arrived on the island and turned the islands native lizardfolk against Cornelius and has claimed the cave as his own. From what the party learned of Punetazo from Maxwell Boulder and Cornelius' fear that the foe may be able to unleash the dinosaurs upon the entire kingdom, the decision is made that prior to returning to Arcadia, Punetazo must be defeated once and for all.

The island is swarming with dinosaurs as the party was set upon by two larger dinosaurs en route to the research cave. It was a strenuous battle, but eventually one of the beasts was defeated and the other fled, probably in search of an easier meal. As the group neared the cave, it was decided that Thomas should scout ahead to gather information before the entire group sets upon the cave. Thomas snuck his way through the jungle and to the edge of a clearing where he saw about a dozen lizardfolk encamped just in front of the cave entrance. While spying on the tribesmen, Thomas espied Punetazo emerge from the cave and speak in a language Thomas couldn't identify, but thanks to the Babel Fish, was able to understand. Punetazo was attempting to rally the tribesman to enlist their aid in doing whatever was necessary to unleash the dinosaurs upon the world. Cornelius' fear was well founded and it was now clear that Punetazo needed to be stopped.

Thomas made his way back to the party and relayed all he had seen and heard. After some short discussion, it was determined that the best course of action would be an attempt to convince the tribesmen that the party was a bigger danger to them than Punetazo with the hopes that they'd be able to leave the lizardfolk unharmed and focus their energies on the real foe. Maxwell expressed his concern about aiding in this mission as Punetazo had magical control over him for quite some time. His fear was that Punetazo would once again be able to control him and turn him against his new companions, so it was decided that Maxwell would not come along and aid in this next venture.
