Retaking the Last Breath

by Thomas Tallfellow

The boarding party of Callot, Jade, Gary our mercenary, Gargenhale and his two crew mates aboard the Moon Dancer made their leap through space towards Gargenhale's ship, The Last Breath. Unfortunately, our element of surprise didn't last as long as hoped. Callot made quite a bit of noise as he leapt and alerted the two vampirates on watch aboard the Last Breath. Thomas took this opportunity to begin launching arrows, managing to strike one of them firmly enough using an arrow of pushing to shove the vampirate overboard and into space. Unfortunately, the alarm had already been sound, so the crew of the Last Breath began to make their way topside. Commodore Krux and Eeblock joined Thomas in making ranged attacks as the boarding party slowly drifted their way to Gargenhale's ship. Meanwhile, the pilot of the Last Breath tried to take evasive actions, but Topolah was too good a pilot and managed to move the Moon Dancer even closer towards the Last Breath. By the time the party reached the ship, Thomas had managed to push another of the vampirates overboard to drift aimlessly in space. The deck of the Last Breath gets quite crowded by the time the boarding party arrives, which makes Thomas' job of sniper fire even easier. Things were looking pretty positive early on, until the ghost managed to possess Jade and force her to engage Callot rather than the crew of the Last Breath. Realizing Callot was being attacked from all sides, Thomas shifted his fire towards his companion, hoping that bringing Jade down would evict the ghost. The strategy worked, but that left Jade, unconscious on the deck of Last Breath with nobody to render her aid. At that moment, Eeblock grabbed hold of Thomas and leapt towards the Last Breath. Not exactly part of the initial plan, but it was the only way to render aid to Jade.

Once aboard the Last Breath, Thomas quickly made his way to Jade and cast a cure wounds spell to revive her. He then went back to firing arrows at enemies from the forecastle. Eventually, the mage piloting the ship made her way topside to aid in the battle. Meanwhile, the melee raged on, until suddenly the mercenary Gary viciously attacked Callot, apparently the ghost had a new victim. Once again, Jade was struck down, but Thomas was quick to get arrive and heal her once again. Thomas eventually depleted all of his arrows of pushing attempting to shove the mage from the ship while the battle roared on. One of the vampirate crew members used a necrotic ability that managed to slay Callot and transform him into a shade. That form of Callot continued to fight against the vampirate crew, but sadly, Callot the fighter was no more. Eventually Gary was rendered unconscious causing the ghost to vacate his body. Jade wasted no time attacking the ghost before it could possess someone else. Her assault was brutal and she managed to defeat the undead creature. Witnessing the decimation of the mutinous crew, the mage pilot fled the scene using magic to teleport her somewhere else. The mission was a success, the Last Breath once again belonged to Captain Gargenhale.
