Returning the Crown

by Thomas Tallfellow

The party rested well for a night in the village of Nightstone. Ruby read some of the book that was recovered from the body of the orc leader and discovered that there is a Cult of the Eclipse and these orcs, the obelisk and the ritual in the Whispering Caves are all somehow tied to this cult. Ruby and Morprax then revealed that the previous day they had each shared a vision of what appeared to be an eclipse with a humanoid creature in front of it. After the vision, each of them found a strange red coin in their hands. The same coin was also found inside the book of the orc leader. It appears that both Ruby and Prax are somehow being pulled into whatever it is that is going on. Upon learning all of this, the party decided it was now time to head back to Arcadia to collect their reward and report the events happening around Nightstone to the king. It was decided that bringing a villager to the city with them would help convince the king that their story is indeed true and something very powerful and beyond their understanding is happening here. Upon hearing a villager was required to journey with them, Morak pushed his way to the front of the line to volunteer. So the party with Morak in tow, set off for the two day journey to the capital city.

Aside from helping a farmer mend a fence that was damaged by the elven hunting party, the journey to the city was uneventful. Upon arriving at Arcadia, it was decided that the party would first visit Hightown and the king before making their way to Hammer Inc and a refreshment at Spirits down in Lowtown. They group made their way to the familiar clerk's office where they explained that they had fulfilled the king's errand and they had items to deliver to him. Several guards were summoned and the party was escorted to the king's viewing chamber. King Baptiste was quite eager to have is crown returned to him but sadly, it was in no state to serve as a crown as the goblins had damaged beyond repair and removed the crystals to use in their strange ritual. A state of disbelief was upon the king's face at seeing what was left of his crown. It took a moment before the king was ready to hear how the crown came to be damaged this way. The party told the story of tracking the Goblins to Nightstone, the arrival of the Seven Snakes in Nightstone, the goblin leader and the strange ritual in the Whispering Caves, the theft of the obelisk from Nightstone, the assault on NIghtstone by the orc horde and how it all tied together with the Cult of the Eclipse. The king took a moment to discuss this with his advisor and decided it would be best if the party remained in the city until the council had a chance to deliberate over all this information and determine a course of action. The party was given their promised reward for slaying the goblins and returning the crown, as well as an additional stipend to help cover their expenses of staying in the city until further notice. As the party had some goods to sell and supplies to obtain in the city, at least for now, not being permitted to leave isn't a bad thing and they received 20 gp to do so. As the party made their way from Hightown into Lowtown and the watering hole known as Spirits, Ruby noticed that they were being tailed by someone, most likely in the employ of the king to ensure the party doesn't leave town. Only time will tell what comes next for our party, but at least for now, they are safe and comfortable in the city.
