Turtle Bay

by Thomas Tallfellow

After successfully fighting of the ghostly pirates, the Congenial Bastard came upon a massive turtle floating in the sea. This turtle measured hundreds of feet across with structures built upon it as well as earth, plants and trees, effectively serving as a floating island. Captain Shivers decided this was an excellent location to repair the damage to the Congenial Bastard that was suffered during the previous night's battle. Being informed by Captain Shivers that the repairs would take about two days, the party decided to investigate the island as there were many ships already docked in the harbor. In the center of a cluster of shacks was what could only be considered a resort, complete with pool and tavern called Turtle Bay. Seeing the crowd at the pool were all unclothed and enjoying the sun and water, Jade immediately stripped down joined them in the pool. Ruby remained a bit more modest but also took in the scene at the pool. Meanwhile, Thomas and Morprax went to the indoor tavern to have an ale and inquire about this strange, living, floating island. After a short discussion with the barkeep, an elderly human approached Thomas and Morprax, just as Jade and Ruby made their way indoors after discovering the pool wasn't exactly the scene for them. Jade was immediately told that entry was only permitted if she put pants back on, so she quickly complied - remaining topless - and joined Thomas and Morprax just as the elderly human sat down with them.

The human introduced himself as Bob Biggins and after confirming that the party were indeed adventurers, he revealed a treasure map and offered the party the lions share of the treasure if they assisted him in recovering it. Thomas spent a moment examining the map and determined that it was indeed a legitimate map of the island which did indeed lead to something. Whether it was treasure or not, would only be learned by following the map. Knowing it would take only a few hours to travel to the destination and back, the party decided to help Mr. Biggins, hopefully earn some treasure and pass some time while the Congenial Bastard was being repaired. The party gathered their gear and set out to search for treasure.

The map was very easy to follow thanks to Thomas' map skills and it wasn't long before a cave was discovered exactly where the map indicated the treasure would be found. This cave was right against the ocean and was already filled with ankle deep water so the party knew they would need to work quickly if they were to be successful in their treasure hunt. It turns out this cave wasn't as much a cave as it was a designed structure. There were tunnels and doors inside. A marching order was established and the quintet began to negotiate the tunnels in search of the treasure. The first room the party encountered had bones lying submerged on the floor. Both Thomas and Ruby sensed this was suspicious and used their powers to determine the place was rife with undead. Expecting trouble, Mr. Biggins shifted to the back of the line as the party members began to file into the room. Ruby immediately pounded one of the pile of bones but nothing happened. It wasn't until a door on the other side of the room was opened that the two skeletons that Ruby identified as undead animated, arose from the water and began to attack the party. Ruby made quick work of one of the skeletons but the other proved much tougher and took the party a bit of work to finally defeat. Due to the rising water levels, there was no time to take a short rest to bind wounds and heal before continuing on their treasure hunt. After continuing down another tunnel, another room was entered which of course contained several more skeletons. Due to the narrow hallway and the difficulty moving about in the now knee deep water, it took quite some time to get the entire party involved in the battle. This proved quite detrimental as the skeletons outnumbered the party members and they were quite adept with weapons. It took quite some time to gain the upper hand in the battle but before that happened, Ruby was struck down. Due to the difficulty of the battle, it was some time before anyone was able to break away from the fight to render Ruby aid. To everyone's chagrin, aid came too late this time. There was no life left in the body of Ruby, she had fallen victim to the one enemy she was most adept at fighting.
