After spending an evening of revelry at the Dirty Stump, our party arose the following morning and made their way across the street to take Dewy up on his offer of information and a reward for cleansing the silver mine of a Fire Newt infestation. Dewy was pleased to hear that someone was finally going to do something to get the mine operating again and pointed them in the direction of the mine. On their way, the party stopped at a second hand shop in an attempt to pawn some of their excess supplies - items that belonged to Ruby that no one else could use and held no sentimental value to Jade. They happened across the Threadbare Maiden, operated by Lofina Whitebrand. After Bob spent some time haggling over price, the party decided they were being offered far too little for these goods and chose to hang on to them until another shop could be found.
After a short trip to the outskirts of town, the party arrived at what appeared to be, a completely deserted mine sight. Upon spying the mine office, they decided to check inside for a foreman to obtain a map of the mine and any first hand information available. Knocking against the locked office door yielded no answer, so the party decided to try and pick the lock to enter the office in search of a map. Just as the door popped open, a pair of Dwarven guards approached the party, ordering them to stop and explain why they were breaking into the office. The two guards, believing the party was up to no good insisted the party return to their headquarters for questioning. Morprax offered a different option to the guards. He told the guards he was going to complete his mission in the mine and they were welcome to tag along and help as he began running directly for the mine entrance. Realizing the two guards were in no shape to detain the party, Jade, Bob and Thomas ran along with Morprax to begin their mission. The two guards did not opt to tag along.
The mine complex began as you would expect with a room containing mining gear, lockers and a bench for changing. Upon leaving, the elves had locked all the doors they could hoping to trap the Fire Newts within. This made gaining access to deeper chambers more difficult than the party had hoped. To make matters worse, some of the doors were trapped causing some injuries to the party before they ever encountered a creature. It appeared the traps and doors had taken a toll on the party because the first three Fire Newts encountered by the party got the jump on them. However, the party managed to slay the creatures without suffering too many injuries. After a few more doors and a few more passages, the party entered an octagonal chamber with several mine carts and a rail system leading deeper into the mine. There were four more Fire Newts in this chamber as well Jade wasted no time rushing into the room and throwing a javelin at the nearest Newt. Unfortunately, the rest of the party wasn't as quick as Jade and the four newts quickly surrounded Jade, dealing some heavy wounds but not incapacitating her. The battle was fierce and for a brief moment it appeared as if our party might meet its demise in this chamber. But once again, when things looked bleakest, Jade arose from unconsciousness to get back into the fray. Bob soon had his first near death experience while Morprax, Thomas and Jade kept the newts busy enough they were unable to slay the helpless Mr. Biggins. As the final newt was slain, the party decided this was enough for one day and opted to leave the mine to recover and regain strength before continuing their mission the next day.
Not unsurprisingly, when the party exited the mine, they were greeted by numerous Dwarven guards demanding the party accompany them back into town for questioning. Resisting arrest didn't feel like a wise decision considering the severity of injuries they had suffered so off for questioning they went.
