King Baptiste's Feast

by Thomas Tallfellow

After slaying a goblin and recovering the note with their plans to attack at dusk to capture the crown, the party continues on their journey to Hightown, taking with them the slain goblin as proof of the diabolical plan. Surprisingly, the party makes it to a government building where they present the golden prawn as well as the slain goblin and the note describing the goblins' plans. The clerk calmly and confidently informed the party that the guard would be notified of the goblin situation immediately, then proceeded to present the party members with passes to the King's Feast as well as the bath house where they were to make themselves more presentable for the feast and take some time to recover from their ordeals of the day.

After relaxing and recovering in the bath house, the party makes their way to the feast where they are escorted to the feast by the same clerk. Once in the feast hall, the party members each go their own way to mix, mingle and survey the scene. Ruby spends some time chatting with Demetri, one of the kingdom's governors, in an attempt to discern if there was any possibility the goblins may be working for someone. Prox has an encounter with the King whom informs Prox there is no need for concern as the guards that are present are more than competent enough to protect the king and his crown. Thomas finds that some of the guests are alarmed by the news that goblins were within the city, but none of them feared for their safety at the feast. Jade sampled several of the wines made available for guests and surveyed the room from her seat. Much to her chagrin, she found quite an unpleasant wine, but Jade being Jade, consumed it anyway.

Eventually, as the time neared dusk, the king made his way in front of the large window looking out over the city to make his speech. The party, being seated near the king noticed through the window a group of goblins and wargs as they crashed through the glass. How this many goblins made it unmolested to the king's location isn't clear, but the guards were outnumbered and the king was knocked to the ground, losing his crown. Quick to action, the party leapt to action. Thomas fired arrows at the warg carrying a goblin nearest the king while Ruby, Jade and Prox moved in incapacitate the same enemy. The goblin riding the warg managed to retrieve the king's crown from the floor and attempted to use his mount to carve a path out of the hall. The party however had the warg all but surrounded. Realizing that an attempt to exit by force would lead to a defeat, the goblins abandoned the warg and deftly fled the scene with the crown. The warg managed to delay pursuit before finally being slain by Jade but the goblins and the crown were now long gone.
