Being confined to the ship for their own good, boredom began to set in. Eeblock had spent the entire time the ship was in port making repairs and Jade is simply not a patient person. Recognizing Callot as an able bodied fighter, the three of them decided to have a sparring session during between some of Eeblock's repair sessions. The first spar was between Callot and Eeblock. Eeblock got off to a quick start, landing a couple of brutal hits against the half-elven fighter, but Callot quickly recovered and displayed his own martial prowess landing vicious hits of his own. Straight martial combat not being Eeblock's forte, Callot managed to subdue him after a second volley of blows. After a short rest, Jade took her turn against the crew member. Having observed Jade's viscous fighting style, Thomas was certain she would get the better of Callot, but yet again, the crew member was able to best Thomas' companion. Jade attempted to persuade Thomas to take a turn, but sparring rules aren't how Thomas fights effectively so Callot was not going to have to fight a third time.
Finally, the Moon Dancer was repaired to the point it had two working weapons and the hull only had minor damage. The following morning, the crew and the hired mercenary arrived. As departure preparations were made, Commodore Krux finally revealed that he knew of a wizard on a distant rock that possessed no love of the Xaryxian empire and was quite certain she would also help aid in saving the party's world. As soon as Krux said this, both Harry and Flapjack knew exactly where they were going. Flapjack headed to the helm and the ship, moving slowly at first but quickly accelerating, departed from Braal and into the vastness of space. It wasn't long before Braal wasn't even visible to the naked eye.
Unfortunately, the route from Braal to the wizard did not lie unwatched. As the Moon Dancer sped through space, a large, jellyfish like creature began to chase them down. As it neared weapon range, a cockpit of sorts could be seen atop the creature with a flamboyantly dressed humanoid apparently helming the creature. Harry identified the type of creature at the helm as a Reigar and that they should prepare to defend the Moon Dancer. As the chasing ship drew closer, the Moon Dancer's crew launched attacks against their pursuer. Suddenly a loud scream could be heard coming from Flapjack and the Moon Dancer began to slow its speed dramatically. Captain Harry immediately ran to investigate as the jellyfish like creature closed the remaining distance and grabbed hold of the Moon Dancer with its tentacles. Just then, a flash appeared on the main deck of the Moon Dancer and the Reigar appeared, utilizing a dimension door to board the ship. He introduced himself as Captain Hastain and stated that he was hired by the Xaryxian Empire to make sure the Moon Dancer did not interfere any further with their mission to sap the party's world of all its energy. Hastain smugly informed the party that this was the end of the road for them as he was going to ensure none lived to see the end of their world.
As the fight between the crew and Hastain began, Hastain summoned a stone golem to his side. As the party initially focused their efforts on Hastain, he once again utilized a dimension door to return to his own ship/creature, leaving the golem to wreak havoc on the Moon Dancer. Thomas attempted to use his arrows of pushing to remove the golem from the deck but was unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Hastain sensing what Thomas was trying to do, began casting spells at Thomas, injuring him quite severely while the golem tried to move away from the side of the ship towards the door that led to Flapjack's quarters and the helm. Eeblock, knowing that without a helm, the Moon Dancer would be stranded in space, rallied the mercenary, Jade and Callot to surround the golem and prevent it from getting to the helm. Thomas positioned himself so that Krux was between himself and Hastain, forcing Hastain to attack others while Thomas continued to pepper the golem with arrows. Hastain was relentless and managed to drop Jade, but just then, Thomas landed struck the golem in a weak spot with a magical arrow causing a large crack in the creature. The mercenary, unable to harm the golem as he possessed no magical weapons, quickly grabbed one of Jade's healing potions and fed it to her as Callot, spying the crack in the golem managed to land the destructive blow. The creature exploded into a giant ball of fire, which once again, dropped Jade. Hastain, seeing his golem destroyed, decided that this ship was too dangerous a target to continue fighting, released the Moon Dancer from his creature's grasp and sailed off into the distance, smugly waving farewell as if his mission were successful.
As the party began tending to wounds, Eeblock was about to head through the door towards Flapjack's quarters when Harry emerged, carrying the limp, lifeless body of Flapjack in his arms. Captain Harry was thoroughly distraught, Callot cried out in disbelief and anguish at the sight. When Thomas realized that the scream they heard from Flapjack at the beginning of the assault was his death scream, he remembered the Revivify scroll the party had purchased while on Braal. He quickly drew the scroll from his backpack and began chanting the words from the scroll in an attempt to restore life to the newly departed Flapjack. At the conclusion of the spell, the words vanished from the scroll, the scroll disintegrated in Thomas' hands but the magic had no effect as Flapjack remained lifeless. Although able to understand the words and magic of the scroll, Thomas just didn't possess the skills to reliably cast this spell. Thomas expressed his sorrow at the loss of Flapjack to Captain Harry and apologized for not having the skill to successfully recreate the magic of the scroll.
Eeblock spent some time investigated the helm and was able to determine there was no permanent damage sustained, but that the magic cast upon it was going to leave it unoperable for a couple of days. They now found themselves aboard a ship, temporarily dead in space, without an experienced Spelljammer to pilot it. The only hope for the Moon Dancer is the manual that came with the helm and the brief lessons Flapjack had given Eeblock and Thomas on piloting a Spelljammer ship. They can only hope this skill set doesn't elude them the way the Revivify spell eluded Thomas.
