Trouble on Braal

by Thomas Tallfellow

The elimination of the Xaryxian assassin did not go unnoticed by the town guard. Thomas quickly cast a spell to help obscure himself and his companions but wasn't quick enough. Jade and the homunculus immediately fled the scene without the aid of Thomas' spell. Unfortunately, Thomas was ensnared in a net thrown by one of the guards. Before the guards could reach him, he managed to escape the net and begin running towards a side alley. The guards were faster though and two of them caught up to him. Thomas was able to elude one of them, but the other was able to briefly grab hold. Thomas, being much more agile than the guard expected quickly escaped his grasp and disappeared into the crowd of people on the streets, making his way into the shadows of a side street where he could then stealthily return to the Happy Beholder to reunite with his friends and Commodore Krux.

Upon his arrival, his companions had already relayed the tale of what happened. Krux informed the party that things were going to become much more difficult on the Rock now that the attention of the guard had been drawn, but he agreed the safest place to be was upon the Moon Dancer. Thomas' spell still in effect, the group made their way to the docks and aboard the ship without drawing any further unwanted attention.

Harry was not happy at all to hear of the Xaryxxian assassins but even less pleased to hear that the town guard witnessed the slaying one of the astral elves. It wasn't long before the crowds on the docks began to disperse as a group of 8 town guards arrived calling out that they knew Thomas was aboard the ship and ordered him to come with them for questioning. Apparently some magical scrying was used on Thomas where the guard was able to ascertain his exact location. Realizing that a fight and hasty departure would leave them without a crew and no funds to attempt to hire another, as well as make the Moon Dancer a marked ship on Braal, Thomas decided to disembark from the ship to plead his case with the head guard.

Thomas explained that they were only on Braal long enough to repair their ship and hire a crew before shipping out and that the incident in the streets was due to Xaryxian assassins that followed the Moon Dancer to Braal. His words did not fall on deaf ears, but the guard captain informed Thomas that the assassins were working with the permission of the prince and he was going to need to come with them to answer questions. Thomas believing this was a bad idea and would probably land him in prison managed to bribe the captain with a hefty some of coin to pretend he was unable to locate Thomas until the ship departed. As Thomas boarded the Moon Dancer, apparently clear of any trouble with the law, Jade was amazed at Thomas' uncanny ability to defuse troublesome situation by merely talking to people. She had no idea this time it cost Thomas 100 gold.

As Eeblock continued to make use of his mending ability to repair the ship, Jade realized there was no booze on board the Moon Dancer but agreed that it was important for her and Thomas to lay low and not leave the ship while on the Rock of Braal. Harry's long time crew member Callot was in need of some new armor, so he agreed to purchase a barrel of ale while on his armor shopping trip into the city. Thomas, informed Callot of the shop he and Harry found the previous day and asked Callot to exchange his basic leather armor for a new set of studded leather armor. A short while later, Callot arrived with the new armor, followed by the delivery team with the barrel of ale. All that was needed now was another two days of repair and the arrival of the crew before the Moon Dancer could depart. But to where?
