Pursuing the Goblins

by Thomas Tallfellow

After the remaining goblins were defeated by the guards, the king who was very appreciative of the parties efforts to protect him, offered them a reward of 50gp each if they are able to retrieve the crown. As further incentive to slay as many of the dastardly creatures possible, a reward of 1gp per goblin ear pairs was offered. Thoms, with his hatred for wargs, needed no further convincing to take on this quest, quickly picked up the trail of the wargs and led the party out of the city and into the surrounding wilderness in search of the thieving goblins. The warg trail was easy for Thomas to follow and the party moved effortlessly through the wilderness.

Eventually, the warg trail crossed the main road, where the party happened upon a man alongside a wagon with a broken wheel. Clearly distraught over his inability to repair the wheel himself, the man asked the party if they might be able to help him get on his way. Prox feeling this was an excellent opportunity to use his skills to help some in need, offered to use a Mending spell to quickly make the repairs. Upon casting the spell, Prox then noticed that the damage to the wheel didn't compare consistent with the description of the events causing the damaged offered up by the cart owner. At that moment, before being able to alert the party of any potential danger, two bandits with crossbows revealed themselves hiding up in trees, bows aimed at the party. It was at this time, the cart owner identified himself as the leader of this group of bandits and demanded the party turn over their belongings to him. With a bigger mission on the line, the party was not going to surrender quite so easily and they decided to make a stand and teach these bandits a lesson. Maybe the party was a little overconfident in their abilities or maybe the bandits were just a little too well prepared but the fight didn't not go well. Thomas had much difficulty getting his arrows to fly true towards the bandit leader. Prox attempted to use divine fire to at the least burn one of the crossbow wielding bandits from the trees, but multiple attempts did nothing more than singe the bandit's clothing. Meanwhile, Ruby and Jade moved into flanking positions of the bandit leader in an attempt to subdue him, but he was more skilled than expected. After striking Ruby down twice and then Jade, the leader threatened to outright murder the twins if Thomas and Prox didn't surrender. Thomas opted to put down his bow, but Prox was having none of that. As the leader was distracted by Prox's attack, Ruby emerged from unconsciousness, imbue her war hammer with Divine Smite and strike down the bandit leader. Upon witnessing the defeat of their leader, the crossbow wielding bandits disappeared into the woods, undoubtedly to search for easier pray.
