Redstone Hills

The Redstone Hills of Rolar are an area of rugged stoney hills and highlands that extend from the northwest of the region down to the southeast and end near the middle of the present Ward of Rolar.  These badlands are the source of the Rolar River and the source of the Dunwash River which joins the Rolar at the Town of Belmar.   The Redstone Hills are an ancient uprising of rock seemingly full of mineral wealth.  Silver, lead, gold, tin and copper are found throughout the range.  This has led to many mining towns and settlements to be scattered throughout the hills and valleys, and it is common to find prospectors looking for the next lode of ore to exploit.

Geography

Rough and rugged hills and low mountains with many sharp, steep valleys.  Many mines exist here, especially lead, silver and tin.

Climate

Hot dry summers, cold dry winters.  When rain does fall, flash floods can be deadly and devestating.

Fauna & Flora

Scattered pine and scrub oak forests, fields and glens of heather and saw grass.  Very little arable land, so the landscape is wild and rough.  Wildlife consists of wild goats, elk, deer, boar, bear and badgers.  Along the major waterways one can find beaver, waterfowl and mink.  Bison, Mastodon, Auroch, camel and wild ponies are found in the valleys and low areas.  The Hills are a known haunt of Wyverns and several Black Dragons have been found here over the last 100 years.

Natural Resources

The Hills are rich in mineral content.  Lead, silver, copper, tin and even gold are all actively mined in the hills.  The stone is a fine red-to-tan sandstone that is much in demand in the neighboring Wards.  There is a hot spring in the Hills that is purported to have healing qualities and is much sought after by those wishing to test the claims.
