Old Oak Chase

Geography

The Chase is an ancient forest of immense size and scope. Stretching east to west, it spans 60 miles. In all, it covers 900 square miles with nearly endless oak, hickory, spruce, elm, maple, pine and chestnut. Some trees have been found that are more than 1,000 years old. These forests cover vast miles of rolling hills and valleys, hiding steep cliffs and deep caves.

Localized Phenomena

Deep within the Chase is a large Treant grove.  These trees are being raised individually from seed or nut by as many as 14 full-grown Treants.  It has been established that the residents of Oakfield will avoid that portion of the forest, and the Treants will leave them alone.  Any threat to their grove will bring the wrath of the ancient beings down on the Shire.  Even a single adult Treant is dangerous.  Fourteen is a force of nature.

Fauna & Flora

Herds of elk, bear, boar, mink, martin, beaver, bison and deer and nearly endless flocks of pheasant, partridge, doves and wild geese and ducks can be found throughout the Chase.  Hares and rabbits abound, the trees are full of squirrels and the forest floor is rich with mushrooms and truffles.
