Ward of Rolar

The Ward of Rolar is located in the southeast portion of the map of Cobal, adjoining the Wards of Jemptal, Colai and Molir. This Ward is very prosperous, with large and active communities in both agriculture and resource development. It has a population of 36,000 souls, and 9,500 of those are Dwarves, making that the largest population of Dwarves in the country.   The Ward has a very diverse population, with a large number of Halflings constituting nearly half the population.  The land is nearly as diverse as the people, being made up of nearly equal areas of rough and rocky mountains, verdant aluvial plains and deep dense hardwood forests.  Wildlife abounds and agriculture is widespread and very profitable.  Trade is brisk and concentrated along the Rolar and Dunwash Rivers where resources and produce of all sorts move up and down the waterways.   The Warden of Rolar is Rory Broadshield, a Dwarf of Clan Redfist and a veteran of more than 40 years in the Thorahl Legions.

Structure

The Ward is ruled by the Warden, appointed by the Lord High Regent, and he is the primary authority within the Ward. The Ward of Rolar contains the Shires of Oakfield and Greenbrae, the County of Redstone and the independent towns of Thorn, Redfield and Belmar, as well as the Ward seat of Rolar. Each of these divisions are under the authority of the Warden, but in practice internal matters are left to the local authorities.

Demography and Population

The most recent Regent's Census states that there are 36,000 souls living in the Ward.  15,000 are Halflings, 9,000 are Humans, 9,500 are Dwarves and 2,500 are Gnomes.   The Ward's largest settlement is the City of Rolar with a population of 9,500 souls, mostly Halflings.  The Town of Redfield is the next largest at 4,700 people.  There are two Shires located in the Ward, the Shire of Greenbrae and the Shire of Oakfield, as well as the County of Redstone.  These three divvisions are each ruled by a Sheriff that is nominated by the local residents and confirmed by the Lord High Regent.

Territories

The Ward can be divided into three distinct geographic zones:  relatively flat aluvial plains, dense ancient forests and rough ranges of rocky hills and low mountains.  Winters are typically cold and mild while summers tend to hot and dry, with spring being the wettest season of the year
