Laqalney River (Luh-KAL-NAY)

The Laqalney River (or simply 'the Laqalney') is the easternmost and longest river in Icalar, running directly from the Eizunuth Well to the Precipice in the south as Goohr's Fall. It forms the Iyr-Balaqalneyis border and a portion of the Iyr-Seyis-Gol border, and cuts between the westernmost third and central third of Seyis-Gol.   The Laqalney serves as Balaqalneyis' near-sole fresh water supply, and the ribbon-like oasis along its eastern bank that extends to Ghûn is crucial to their economy. As such, it is said that the country was named "child of the Laqalney".   At the Balaqalneyis-Seyis-Gol border it splits, forming the Raarq River near Accatren, that ultimately curves back as rejoins the Laqalney farther south. The island created as a result is known as the Isle of the Cradle and has a bowl-like shape that tends to gather significant mist; this is seen as a holy site by adherents of the Cradle of Mists.

Geography

The Laqalney is the widest river in Icalar, although not particularly deep, and slow-moving as a result. Its western border is significantly higher than its eastern one due to the Iyran plateau. By the time it reaches Seyis-Gol it has grown somewhat marshy and slower still, before being channeled in its final leagues into a far narrower, deeper state to become Goohr's Fall.
