Duchy of Len Doa
The Duchy of Len Doa is a political division of the High Kingdom of Imesse. It is located in the northeastern corner of the country, with the region of Colo to the north, the Bay of Calas and the Duchy of Ben Doa to the south and the Duchy of Hekmo to the west. To the east is The Eastern Sea which is a primary source of much of the wealth and prosperity that the Duchy is experiencing.
The Duchy is a small division of the High Kingdom, covering only 4,000 square miles of coastal plains and forests. Small as it is, it has a greater population than its much larger neighbor, the Duchy of Hekmo. Its capital, the City of Len Doa, is the largest population center in the Kingdoms with nearly 30,000 souls living within its walls. It is also the busiest port in the two Kingdoms, with hundreds of ships loading and unloading cargo and passengers every month.
The Duchy is nearly as old as the Kingdom. First established in 6 AF by King Benn Ohn for his loyal friend and cousin, Lenis "Strongarm" Ahm, the duchy has been ruled by the Ahmi family ever since. The current Duke is Landan am Ahmi and he rules from the same castle that his ancestors built.
Structure
Absolute rule by the Duke in the name of the High King. The Duke has appointed talented and qualified men (and many women) to positions of authority and influence in the Duchy and has seen much benefit because of it.
Culture
The duchy is in the throws of a massive economic boom. Trade is growing at a staggering pace, the population is steadily increasing. With much of the rest of the northern Kingdom suffering economically from poor leadership and excessively high taxes, the Duchy of Len Doa is growing in nearly every metric imaginable. The Duke has even petitioned the High King for a Royal Charter to begin minting Imessian coins within the duchy... something that worries other nobles and lords of the Kingdom very much.
History
The Duchy was established in 6 AF with Duke Lenis Ahm as the first Duke of Len Doa. Known as the Strongarm of Imesse, he was granted the duchy by King Benn Ohn and established himself at the site of the city castle of Len Doa.

Foreign Relations
The Duchy is currently experiencing very tense and sometimes violent relations with its western neighbor, the Duchy of Hekmo. There is a rising problem of brigandry along the western border of the Duchy, and many suspect that the culprits are supported by political strongmen from the Duchy of Hekmo. These bandits and river pirates target merchant caravans and trade barges and hit them with fast, violent attacks that thus far have left two dead and nearly a dozen wounded and resulted in the loss of tens of thousands of guilders worth of lumber, beer, wheat flour, iron ingots, salt pork and nearly 40 tons of finely refined pitch (which by itself was worth more than 5,000 guilders). Duke Landan is becoming desperate to stop this raiding of his subject's trade and commerce.
