Thomas Costayne

Lord of Oldtown, Defender of the Citadel Thomas Costayne (a.k.a. Long Tom)

Bio

In the sprawling tapestry of Westeros, Lord Thomas Costayne, known as Long Tom, weaves a tale of resilience and cunning that rivals the most intricate of stories told by legendary bards. Hailing from a house renowned for commerce, Long Tom defied the misconceptions surrounding his dyslexia, emerging not only as a shrewd trader but also a seasoned general and fighter.   Long Tom's longevity as the Hand of the Iron Throne earned him his moniker, a testament to over two decades of political prowess. His house's prosperity in grain, wine, and land dealings complemented his talents, yet he transcended mere financial success. A skilled general, he twice triumphed over Blackmount in wars, fostering alliances that expanded his house's wealth and influence across the globe.   As one of Westeros' most influential figures, Long Tom's tenure as Hand extended through the reigns of both King Aegor Targaryen and his daughter, Queen Visenya. His intelligence and cunning transformed him into a powerful political force, credited with stabilizing the Reach and consolidating order within its borders.   The tides of fortune, however, turned against Long Tom during the great rebellion. Aligned with Queen Visenya, his loyalty led to defeat when she fell to Aelyx Mopatis of Pentos, the leader of The Windblown. Stripped of power and influence, Long Tom faced a fractured Reach, with some houses pledging allegiance elsewhere and others following him in a pursuit of peace under the Bracken banner.   Years of uneasy calm shattered as civil war erupted in the Reach, forcing Long Tom to confront former allies and kin. Amidst the turmoil, a grisly duel unfolded against Aelyx Mopatis, the very man who had claimed his queen's life. Despite grievous injuries, Long Tom emerged victorious, a testament to his indomitable spirit and the miraculous favor of The Seven. As the saga of Westeros unfolds, Long Tom's story resonates as a testament to wit, tenacity and the unpredictable dance of power in the realm.
