Nasvaltkos Crater
The Nasvaltkos Crater is a well known location of mystery and peril to the people of the Kingdom of Alsona. According to legends it had originally been a city of the Nameless Empire before it had fallen. At some point before the city had either been destroyed or after, dwarves had built a city of their own underneath, creating their own society under the noses of the surviving humans. Unfortunately, while the humans above had been building their own new society after the fall of their predecessors, the dwarves' experiments and artisanry went out of hand, sparking a massive explosion that wiped out humans and dwarves alike, and leaving behind a desolate crater.
Geography
The area of the crater itself occupies what was the entire city of Nasvaltkos, and the dwarven realms underneath. The destruction of Nasvaltkos made the region unrecognizable, and even today flora refuses to grow within the confines of the crater. The rivers that cut their paths through the crater are somewhat undisturbed, and allow for a rough passage within, but the hazards of this passage are vast and difficult, not just from local mutated wildlife, but the ruins that suffuse the river and often shift, causing problems for would-be travelers by boat. Travel in the crater itself is just as difficult, particularly as the closer you near the center of the crater, the more likely you will perish from the Wasting Illness that those who venture within suffer.
Ecosystem
The creatures of the crater are few, but are incredibly vicious and violent, threatening those who pass through with horrid deaths. Many of them are seen to be mutated and horrific versions of neighboring forest creatures, and are considered to be abominations by the Tenashi elves. They are highly aggressive and exclusively meat eaters, as there is no natural flora that grows within the crater. Their favored prey are adventurers and salvagers from Peristeri, who are willing to risk death and disease for the treasures that are often moved around by the shifting rock of the crater.
