Draconologist

The field of veterinary medicine is diverse, encompassing care for domesticated pets, wildlife, and even specialized creatures like dragonkin. These majestic beings require unique expertise, leading to the development of a specialized field known as Draconology. Draconologists are dedicated professionals who work with dragonkin, often serving with organizations like the Dragonguard on both local and global levels.   The study of dragonkin involves an in-depth understanding of their varied anatomies and complex biological processes, setting it apart as a distinct and specialized field within veterinary medicine. Working with these magnificent creatures can be inherently risky, as any injured organism may react defensively when feeling threatened. Draconologists must navigate these challenges while providing the essential care and treatment that dragonkin require.   The term "Draconologist" is derived from the taxonomic rank Draconis, which is a classification encompassing all species of dragonkin.

History

The study of draconology has its origins in the formation of the Dragonguard just before the Draconian War. While the Dragonguard still operates many draconology schools, there are also numerous civilian universities that offer programs in this field of study.   Before the war, only a small number of individuals were involved in this specific field. However, they were heavily targeted by the Wyrm of Chaos and its allies. This was because the dragonkin population needed to be kept low to prevent humans from using them as weapons against the opposing forces. Fortunately, most were operating in secret and out of sight.
