Sunlit Vanguard

The Sunlit Vanguard was a renowned mercenary group recognized for their expertise in aerial reconnaissance and espionage. They specialized in utilizing Bleeding Sun dragons, which enabled them to soar high above, utilizing the sun's glare as a shield from being spotted from the ground. Their primary focus was on gathering intelligence, although they were adept at combat when necessary.   While they were not formally aligned with Airigold, an Ancient Dragon, they frequently carried out missions in accordance with his directives. The members of the Sunlit Vanguard were often called Lightbearers.   Unlike the Scalebreakers and the subsequent Dragonbane Order, the Sunlit Vanguard did not view dragonkin as a menace to humanity. Instead, they believed that the Wyrm of Chaos and its allies were simply corrupted and malevolent. This mindset likely stemmed from the close association the group had with Airigold, one of the most prominent Ancient Dragonkin of that era.

Structure

The Sunlit Vanguard operated without a strict hierarchical structure and functioned more like a mercenary group. While on a mission, a few designated leaders managed teams and made mission decisions based on directives from Airigold.

Public Agenda

Their primary objective was to conduct aerial reconnaissance missions in order to detect and provide early warning of any potential threats. Additionally, they were tasked with gathering intelligence on the Wyrm of Chaos and its allies.   After uniting with the formidable Scalebreakers, the Dragonguard Alliance engaged in the invaluable exchange of critical intelligence. This exchange empowered the unified military forces to craft comprehensive strategies and thoroughly prepare for the imminent battles, taking into account the complexities of the current situation.

History

During the turbulent era of the Twenty-Year Scourge, the Sunlit Vanguard emerged as a stalwart faction in western Emberland. They were committed to aerial reconnaissance and the protection of vulnerable villages from imminent threats. With a mission to track the movements of the formidable Wyrm of Chaos and its allies, the Sunlit Vanguard worked in close collaboration with Airigold, an Ancient Dragon of great wisdom. Their dedication and strategic interventions were crucial in alerting communities and thwarting the schemes of the malevolent forces during that perilous time.   As fate would have it, the Sunlit Vanguard crossed paths with the Scalebreakers, and their eventual union marked the genesis of the celebrated Dragonguard. This coalition, born of necessity and shared purpose, brought together the formidable skills and resources of the two groups, creating a force capable of challenging the oppressive rule of the Wyrm of Chaos. With the additional support of benevolent Ancient Dragonkin, the Dragonguard undertook a valiant quest to liberate the lands from the tyrannical grip of the Wyrm of Chaos, ultimately shaping the course of history in the realm.

Disbandment

While the Sunlit Vanguard was not officially dissolved, its members were integrated into the newly formed Dragonguard. Unlike the Scalebreakers, who went their separate ways after the Draconian War, all the members of the Sunlit Vanguard remained within the Dragonguard. The Dragonguard's reconnaissance unit continues to identify themselves as Lightbearers and the Sunlit Vanguard to honor the group's legacy and the contributions of its members.

Worship

The group didn't adhere strictly to any religion, but they held Airigold in high regard, almost like a deity. Airigold was an enormous dragon with golden claws and an apparent invincibility. Over time, some members of the group established a ceremonial tradition known as the "Wings of Sunlight" for the Sunlit Vanguard to carry out.
