Mysteries of the Dragonstone

The Dragonstone has been the subject of countless speculations and myths over the years, yet its true meaning remains an enigma. Its discovery at the onset of the Draconian War has led many to believe that its inscriptions might be linked to those tumultuous events.   The Dragonstone is etched with intricate, ancient script that bears a remarkable resemblance to Draakhn, a language spoken by the enigmatic Ancient Dragonkin. Despite their extraordinary wisdom and knowledge, even the Ancient Dragonkin themselves have been unable to unravel the mystery of the text etched onto the Dragonstone. This has only served to deepen the allure and intrigue surrounding this ancient artifact.   Despite several theories revolving around the Wyrm of Chaos, he never made any direct reference to the Dragonstone during his reign of terror.

Variations & Mutation

Over the years, numerous theories have emerged regarding the significance of Dragonstone and its inscriptions.   Here is a list of the various theories, in no particular order:

Warning of the Twenty Year Scourge

Even though the Dragonstone was unearthed at the outset of the Draconian War, which was at the end of the Twenty Year Scourge, there are those who speculate that its discovery served as a presage of the tyrannical reign of the Wyrm of Chaos. They argue that the stone was found twenty years too late, suggesting that if it had been unearthed earlier, it may have provided a warning that could have altered the course of history. According to this line of thought, the focus on immediate survival had prevented earlier discovery of the Dragonstone.   Furthermore, this theory has led some to believe that the significance of the Dragonstone extends beyond the Twenty Year Scourge. Instead, it is posited that the stone may be a portent of the Wyrm of Chaos' potential return and its implications for the future.

Warning of the Draconian War

The Dragonstone was unearthed at the onset of the Draconian War, leading some to speculate that its inscriptions served as a forewarning of the impending conflict. Drawing parallels to the theory surrounding the Warning of the Twenty Year Scourge, there is a belief that the stone's discovery came just a few years too late. This has also prompted a further hypothesis suggesting that the stone's message pertained to the imminent resurgence of the Wyrm of Chaos.

Explaining the Amberstone's capability

The Dragonstone bears a remarkable resemblance to the shape of the Amberstone, which has led some to speculate that it could provide insight into the Amberstone's capabilities or serve as a guide for its usage. This hypothesis gains support from the fact that the Wyrm of Chaos and its allies devoted two decades to safeguarding the Amberstone, seemingly in an attempt to unlock its unknown potential. However, despite its inscriptions bearing a resemblance to the language of the Ancient Dragonkin, even the Ancient Dragonkin themselves were unable to decipher them. Some speculate that the inscriptions may also contain clues on how to destroy the Amberstone, preventing its further use.

Wyrm of Chaos' return and End of the World

Since the Dragonstone was discovered near the end of the Twenty Year Scourge, there are those who believe that it was a forewarning of the imminent return of the dreaded Wyrm of Chaos. He was the lone surviving Ancient Dragonkin, after all of his allies had been vanquished. Although his life was spared, he was imprisoned alongside the Amberstone in Frostcrest. This has fueled speculation that he might somehow break free, forge new alliances, and unleash an apocalyptic era of devastation. Consequently, many were advocating for the execution of the Wyrm of Chaos due to the fear of his potential return and the catastrophic consequences it could entail.

Location of Treasure / Artifact

While the majority of the theories are centered around themes of destruction, suffering, and war, there are some theories that deviate significantly from these elements.   Certain individuals believe that the Dragonstone may actually reference a specific location or serve as a riddle to uncover a long-lost artifact. There are those who speculate that this artifact might have been the Amberstone, as the Dragonstone bears a striking resemblance to the shape of the it. According to this line of thought, the Amberstone coincidentally came into the possession of the Wyrm of Chaos and his allies two decades prior to the discovery of the Dragonstone. However, this latter theory is not widely endorsed, as some argue that acquiring such a significant artifact would not have been feasible, especially without the aid of the Dragonstone.

Ancient motto or code of honor

Some scholars speculate that the Dragonstone may be more than just a mere artifact. Their theory suggests that it is a motto or code of honor passed down by an ancient group of Dragonkin, predating the current known Ancients. This speculation is based on the striking resemblance of the inscription to Draakhn, the language of the current Ancient Dragonkin. Additionally, the inscription consists of only two paragraphs, which aligns with the notion that it could potentially be a motto or creed of significant importance within their culture.

Fabrication by the Dragonbane Order

There are some individuals who hold the belief that the Dragonstone may have been intentionally created by the Dragonbane Order in order to serve their own agenda. They speculate that the Order may have fabricated the artifact to divert attention away from their activities or to generate conspiracy theories as a means of concealing their true motives from the public.   According to their theory, following the outbreak of the Draconian War, the Dragonstone was deliberately concealed by the Dragonguard as they focused on the conflict. However, in the aftermath of the war, the Dragonstone mysteriously disappeared and has not been sighted since. Some proponents of this theory suggest that the Dragonbane Order may have reclaimed the Dragonstone, supposing that they were its original creators and possibly wished to prevent others from deciphering its enigmatic inscription.   Additionally, there are those who speculate that the inscription on the Dragonstone might not be in an ancient language predating the Draakhn, but rather a deliberately contrived set of symbols derived from the language to mislead others.
