Ishtalet

Ishtalet is a harsh island, barely inhabited by the people of the Moontide Isles. The land here is rough and rocky and barely manageable for farming. The only real settlements are on the shores, where trade from other isles can be obtained. No king claims Ishtalet as part of their land and it is only nominally considered by the High Queen. Most of those from Ishtalet are shunned by the Daoine of the other isles, and even the Northlanders avoid the isle--as there is no gain in raiding its meager settlements and the isle has a harsh reputation.
Ishtalet was not always like this. In the times when the Fey first roamed the isles, Ishtalet was a gentle, rolling land where crops flourished and livestock thrived and nasty storms that beset the rest of the Moontide Isles seemed to pass to either side of it. Then, the isle was called Dywyll by the Fey and the early Daoine settlers.
However, an Unseelie prince, in an attempt to gain power and control over the Isles, thought that he could make a pact with demonic and devilish factions alike, attempting to play each side off of the other in his hubris. Upon discovering the betrayal, both factions wreaked devastation upon Ishtalet and the landscape was transformed. Craggy mountains overcast with sulfur rose up from from the grounds, destroying the fertile lands that once thrived on Ishtalet. Those who survived the devastation did their best to survive on the new landscape. However, as generations passed, the peoples of Ishtalet were touched by the demonic and devilish influences on the isle. With no known lineage, Daoine parents might sire a tiefling child. And today, many of those who still reside on Ishtalet are tieflings descendants of those earlier settlers. Many avoid Ishtalet, believing it cursed and Tieflings are regarded with skepticism at best by the Daoine and Northlander peoples.
