Hrafnel
The island of Hrafnel is the westernmost of the Moontide Isles and is the heart of the Northlander's territory. While the Northlanders who live here are less barbaric than their forefathers who set sail from Rhytham, they are still far from "civilized" in comparison to the more peaceful Daoine. It has only been within the last generation that the Northlanders have (mostly) ceased their dependence on raiding and pillaging local Daoine settlements and have moved to make their living through shipbuilding, farming, hunting, and fishing. Other holdouts of the "old ways" continue to raid farther locations on the mainland, but the longer journey is more perilous as the mainland naval defenses are much stronger.
The Northlanders are not the only inhabitants of the isle. There are several connected Dwarven cities under the Grondsgrunn Mountains, collectively ruled by Thane Thelgrod Warmhelm out of Kigdarihm. Thane Thelgrod acknowledges the High Queen's rule over the land, as it serves the greater dwarven interests. The dwarves have had good relations with the Northlanders of the isle and there is open trade between them. However, the dwarves are not the only inhabitants of the mountains. Orc tribes, trolls, and giants also inhabit the mountains, along with a few small scattered aarakocra settlements. In recent months, however, the dwarves have reported encounters with duergar as well as sightings of formorians.
Within the Skamkell Wood on the southeast of the isle, a clan of Firbolgs has a settlement. They have primarily isolated themselves over the years, occasionally trading with the Nothlanders. However, in recent years more of the Firbolgs have started to wander out of the woods into other lands. The Firbolgs have a longstanding enmity toward the Cult of the Claw and the Blood Tribes of Llywelyn.
