Azimuthian Paintings

This page contains a listing of in-universe paintings, drawings, and sketches found within the campaigns, one-shots, and stories of Azimuth. Though many artworks exist in the world, they may not receive focus or credit in these stories. However, there are some that do that have great importance to characters, plots, or the world as a whole.

Chaka's Paintings

Chaka is a hobgoblin artist of the Fifth Age and member of the Lightbringers. He has produced many art pieces during his travels, several of which have been put on display in galleries in Tarteria.

Work #34: Drackhan Tundra Landscape Azimuth 2 - Session 0.2 - Magical Toys and Concocted Wonders
This piece was submitted to the "Temperance and Peace" showing at the Watermill Gallery on 26 and 27 Madaet 5A 352. It is paint on canvas paper, and is wider than it is tall. It is a calm and serene depiction of the rolling snowy hills of the northern Drackhan Tundra. This piece garnered the attention of Argilla, son of Kla, and Al'phonas Muchaelas, which would lead to Chaka's induction into the Keeleon Artistry Society of Tarteria.
Work #42: Field of Flowers Azimuth 2 - Session 04 - Dusty Dens
This painting is on rolled parchment, approximately twelve by sixteen inches. It shows a field of vibrant green with a backdrop of the dark red Orog Range. The field is filled with five-pointed silver rhododendrons in bloom. The piece was shown to inspire Romsca, Smelter of Ingots, during the battle at the Hero Hunters Facility on 2 Adroth 5A 352.
Work #83: Owl's Stare Azimuth 2 - Session 07 - Brawl for the Box
The piece is on a smaller roll of parchment. It is a charcoal drawing of an owl in a snowscape. It functions almost as an anatomical study on the motion of flight. The owl's eyes are focused downward as it dives. The piece was shown to inspire Demitri during the battle at the Darksteel Foundry warehouse on 2 Adroth 5A 352.
Work #54: Ma Baking Her Award-Winning Bread Azimuth 2 - Session 10 - The Sunken Shrine
It is a low-light sketch of a domestic scene inside a small farmstead or frontier house. The focus of the piece is on the oven, where a woman is pulling out a fresh loaf of bread. It is rendered in loving detail. The piece is a mirrored, partner piece to "Work #53: Pa Gathering Firewood"; both can be overlaid, which shows the figures of Chaka's parents holding hands. The piece was shown to inspire Arwin during the battle at the Spring of the Natant Yew on 3 Adroth 5A 352.
Work #90: Portrait of Urva Azimuth 2 - Session 10 - The Sunken Shrine
It is a sketched portrait rendered in warm colors of a young hobgoblin boy. The hobgoblin is red colors and appears somewhat reckless in appearance. The piece was shown to inspire Demitri during the battle at the Spring of the Natant Yew on 3 Adroth 5A 352.
Work #11: Red Blades Azimuth 2 - Session 22 - Raised Voices
This piece is a well-crafted and completed painting showing a group of elite hobgoblin warriors known as the Red Blades. They are arranged in a battle formation as a show of force for the unit, with weapons levied in perfect unison. The piece was shown to inspire Demitri during the group's preparations for Mortimr Gwathagoldrin to investigate the Eight-Pronged Residuum Ring.
Work #69: Tree Study Azimuth 2 - Session 23 - Acid and Fire
The piece is a series of sketches and studies within his sketchbook. It contains tree and plant form and anatomy as part of Chaka's preparations for painting the World Tree. The piece was shown to inspire Ilmendwyth during the battle against ankhegs on the Orc Highway on 10 Adroth 5A 352.
Work #84: Pile of Baskets Azimuth 2 - Session 28 - An Interrupted Meal
It is a still life study of a pile of wicker baskets. Of the piece, Chaka said, "Baskets are... art and full of potential." Chaka attempted to trade the piece for goods at Gralphank's Ten-Foot Pole Emporium on 13 Adroth 5A 352.
Masterwork Painting of the Great Phoenix Azimuth 2 - Session 32 - To Paint a Phoenix
The piece is a masterwork representation of the Great Phoenix. The scene shows a storm of roiling clouds and branching lightning, which uses a hint of Residuum green pigment, which gives it the illusion of movement. The effect that Chaka was able to imbue in the piece used colors he had gathered from his journeys, including colors from axe-breaker tree sap, Romsca’s fur dye, herbs and spices, and mallow flowers. The Great Phoenix was depicted as a terrifying beast with wings outstretched, flying and surrounded by roaring flame colored with these pigments. Chaka crafted the piece in three days, and it was put on display at the "History and Heroes" showing at the Watermill Gallery on 16 Adroth 5A 352.
Work #53: Pa Gathering Firewood Azimuth 2 - Session 33 - History and Heroes
This piece was submitted to the "History and Heroes" showing at the Watermill Gallery on 16 Adroth 5A 352. Depicted in the piece is a middle-aged, stern, tough-looking hobgoblin father. He is shown chopping and bundling firewood from a downed tree near to a small home in the far background. The piece is a mirrored, partner piece to "Work #54: Ma Baking Her Award-Winning Bread"; both can be overlaid, which shows the figures of Chaka's parents holding hands.
Work #56: Urva Making Mischief Azimuth 2 - Session 35 - On the Scent
This piece depicts a young hobgoblin boy chasing a family pet, a small javelina named Stunky. The scene shows the boy chasing it through a kitchen, causing things to be scattered and tossed about. This was shown to inspire Arwin as the group prepared to infiltrate the Commandment of Sky Guildhall on 16 Adroth 5A 352.
Work #58: Ma's Award-Winning Bread Azimuth 2 - Session 35 - On the Scent
This piece is a still-life of a freshly baked loaf of bread, with steam lines, wrapped in a lovely terrycloth that fades into the background. This was shown to inspire Romsca, Smelter of Ingots, as the group was infiltrating the Commandment of Sky Guildhall on 16 Adroth 5A 352.

Argilla's Paintings

Argilla, son of Kla, is an orc artist of the Fifth Age. He was previously the godsguard of the city of Porgorag, but it was said his true passion was painting. He is a member of the Keeleon Artistry Society of Tarteria and has several works of prominence.

This piece was submitted to the "Temperance and Peace" showing at the Watermill Gallery on 26 and 27 Madaet 5A 352. It is a coastal view showing the angered, tumultuous waters of the Leviathan Sea. It includes a sharp and jagged representation of the Radags, shown at dramatic angles. The piece evokes a sense of tension that is contrasted by the silvery-white light coming from the hazy cloud cover over the water. According to the artist statement, the painting is "about the continued struggle of orc-kind against the forces working against it. Orcs will stand strong even if the landmasses themselves are thrown at them."
The Hero Hunters Azimuth 2 - Session 04 - Dusty Dens
This large, framed painting is a group portrait of the four members of the Hero Hunters adventuring group: a younger Haugon, Avodac wearing a religious sigil, Farink equipped with a crossbow, and Phaidra holding a mossy staff. It was painted sometime before 29 Avedar 5A 303. The posing of the subjects is familiar and friendly with each other.
Peace Be With Yew Azimuth 2 - Session 11 - Porgorag's Light
This piece was found on display at in Godsguard Ankhan's office at the Church of Zenethia in Porgorag. It's an aerial view of the city, with early morning light illuminating the sundial in Porgorag Plaza. The Yew Tree is the painting's backdrop, where it leans forward almost at an angle towards the city, which resembles a mother holding a child.
Another Brick in the Wall Azimuth 2 - Session 31 - These Old Artists
This piece commissioned by the Commandment of Sky Guildhall and was submitted to the "History and Heroes" showing at the Watermill Gallery on 16 Adroth 5A 352. It is a depiction of the initial construction of the Breakwater Keep and the Rexun River. The colors used are stylized to evoke feeling in the piece. Argilla used a specific color palette to do so, including a paint which utilized residuum green to color the bricks of the keep.

The Unsigned Paintings of the Great Beasts

This set of artworks were all painted by an unknown artist in the early Fifth Age said to be able to capture "the majesty of nature and through this lens shows us magic”. Each painting depicts one of the Four Great Beasts.

This masterwork painting is a depiction of the Great Leviathan in a sea storm. The long, serpentine, scaled body of the Leviathan is mixed with the briny mix of green and blue hues among the storm and crashing waves. The head of the Leviathan is shown large enough to swallow a sailing ship whole, and there is a visible indent or damage along its back. Hidden beneath the artwork are two elven letters, “S” and “E”, that only Chaka was able to notice.

This piece was submitted to the "Temperance and Peace" showing at the Watermill Gallery on 26 and 27 Madaet 5A 352. It is a study of a tree in a grove with dark bark that curls around the trunk. The branches sprawl outward into vibrant red leaves with cupped, red flowers. The background shows an additional number of these red trees with a pink-hued lake in distance. The piece evokes a sense of yearning, perhaps towards an orcish ancestry.
Suor Shesh Gline, daughter of Leir Azimuth 2 - Session 0.2 - Magical Toys and Concocted Wonders
This piece was submitted to the "Temperance and Peace" showing at the Watermill Gallery on 26 and 27 Madaet 5A 352, where it garnered much attention. The name is elvish for "holy place". It is a minimalist representation of Ruin's Temple in the Fire Spire Sands using dramtaic paint strokes and vibrant colors. A slash of beige-gray paint forms a horizon line over a black sky, with outcrops of white, sandy colors forming the landscape. A singular stoke of stark green, textured oil paint leads from the horizon line upwards off the top of the piece.
Untitled Portrait of Gim Gorod Unsigned Azimuth 2 - Session 16 - Planting Seeds, Parting Gifts
This oil painting of Coinguard Gim Gorod hung on display at his residence in Porgorag. The quality is subpar, but it does display Gorod's likeness well. Chaka felt it was a "passionless" work.

Untitled Ruslan Painting of Rune Pike Captain Levka Ruslan Azimuth 2 - Session 30 - On the Riverbank
The piece is a depiction of the Rune Pike in the Leviathan Sea. It shows a seascape with large, rocky protrusions, complete with flying harpies and a sun in the upper corner. It is static, flat, and the colors lack depth. The piece was crafted with the guidance of Chaka on 13 Adroth 5A 352. It was later destroyed by water damage in the Rexun River.
Untitled Romsca Figure Painting Romsca, Smelter of Ingots Azimuth 2 - Session 30 - On the Riverbank
It is a rough depiction of a humanoid figure. Due to the nature of Romsca's hand anatomy, there are a number of smears on the parchment. The piece was started under the guidance of Chaka on 13 Adroth 5A 352. Chaka said the piece showed growth.
Tor Mimba, Tarteria Tolkk, son of Gahn Azimuth 2 - Session 33 - History and Heroes
This piece was submitted to the "History and Heroes" showing at the Watermill Gallery on 16 Adroth 5A 352. The title means "For my kin, Tarteria" in orcish. It depicts Queen Alena, daughter of the Last Orc King, and her son, Argil, Founder of New Keeleon. The representation of Argil, though young, shares a resemblance to Grupe, the Monster Hunter.
Lighting Doravelzog Gline, daughter of Leir Azimuth 2 - Session 33 - History and Heroes
This piece was submitted to the "History and Heroes" showing at the Watermill Gallery on 16 Adroth 5A 352. It shows an interior cavern scene of Doravelzog and the battle that took place there between Esturk, The World's End, and the Zenethian Heroes. There is a striking green light enveloping the heroes as a representation of Zenthai's Blessing.
Grieving Sigil Amelie Halle Azimuth 2 - Session 33 - History and Heroes
This piece was submitted to the "History and Heroes" showing at the Watermill Gallery on 16 Adroth 5A 352. The painting shows Brigitte, the Grayguard, wearing the Zenethian Armor with the crystalline wings extended. She is looking down and the focus is on her holding something close to her chest. The style of the work uses a wet or melted appearance, as if the oil paints had been applied and blended while wet. It uses a rainbow of pigments rather than a realistic representation of color.
The Battle of Broken Homes Uro Grilmara Azimuth 2 - Session 33 - History and Heroes
This piece was submitted to the "History and Heroes" showing at the Watermill Gallery on 16 Adroth 5A 352. It is unique as it doesn't show the subject, Trip, the One Who Fell, directly in the view. The focus of the piece of broken roadway tile or stone in Port Haville that has been shattered by a heavy impact, presumably during the battle that took place there in 4A 995. There is a dark stain of orcish blood on the ground. Depicted in shadow over this scene is a visual of Trip in the final moments of her battle with the Bebelith.
Untitled Painting of Two Genasi Unknown Azimuth 2 - Session 36 - The Chamber of Titles
This piece was found hanging in the dusty research room of the Chamber of Titles. The painting was dated around 5A 330. It shows two genasi: a fiery headed woman and a blue-skinned man, identified as Maalik and Nabat. The painting showed these two as very familiar and close to each other.
